Wallington's wines are made on site in the unusual and handsome Straw Bale Winery. Winemaking concentrates on small batches of carefully handpicked wines.
Margaret Anthony moved from Sydney in 1990 to escape the city life for the fresh country air. Over the following 10 years, whilst raising 4 young daughters, Anthony and Margaret embarked on their dream of creating boutique wine. Passing through the family generations now, Margaret hands over the winemaking to her second eldest daughter Nadja and her partner Steve. Together the family continues the unique brand of Wallington Wines.
All daughters remain actively involved in some way with the business and a very strong family the connection is central to the sustainability of the farm as a whole. Steve, Nadja and Margaret now collectively run the 1000acre property, vineyard and winery, supporting one another as a family run, owned and operated a business!
A family-owned, biodynamic and organic winery we pride ourselves on high quality, holistic viticulture practices for the wines we produce. Our wines are made from hand-picked grapes, from vines that produce low yields of intensely flavoured fruit. The grapes are crushed and pressed in our straw bale winery. The juice then goes through a wild yeast fermentation giving the wines an individual quality. The reds are open vat fermented and basket pressed to mature in a variety of oak barrels for up to 2 years before being bottled.
The Winery Cottage is now available for you to enjoy a stay at our family farm.
The cottage was the original farmhouse of the property and stands proudly overlooking the farm, vineyard and olive grove, with beautiful views over the Belubula River and Lachlan Valleys. We have been able to restore the pressed metal ceilings and original cedar floors in the original 3 piece rooms, kitchen, lounge and bedroom.
Winery dinners for groups, wine tastings, vineyard and winery tours are available in conjunction with your stay. There are scenic walks through the paddocks where sheep and cattle graze, up the infamous Bald Hill to take in the view or through the vineyard and olive grove. There is also a tennis court for more vigorous exercise, and if you are here at vintage you can also help pick grapes and experience the art of winemaking.
