King River Estate Wines

The winery and cellar door is situated on the property along with a large wood fired pizza oven and a great view to the vineyard.

Located in the picturesque King Valley, King River Estate was established in 1990 when Trevor Knaggs and father Colin planted the first vines on the Estate. The vineyard is managed using biodynamic practices which makes the estate sustainable and preserves the land for future generations. In the winery we also use minimal intervention in the wine making process such as using wild yeast (natural ferments), which allows the wine to show its true personality. Keeping with Trevor’s traditional yet innovative approach to wine making, the King River Estate’s philosophy is built of the ‘old world’ ways. Wines are made naturally; it is Trevor’s belief that grapes should be left to their own accord, and that wild yeasts and natural fermentation make for far more complex, soft & textural wines.

King Valley is located in North East Victoria, in the south eastern part of Australia. The King Valley is a comfortable 3 hours drive north of Melbourne, a 5 hours drive south of Canberra and 7.5 hour drive from Sydney.

Self contained Accommodation

You will be made very welcome at the three bedroom King River Estate Guest House.

The Guest house is fully self-contained and has a great outdoor area with a large BBQ and rose garden. Allow time to oversee the vineyard / winery and to visit the other attractions of the King Valley. The vineyard is run using biodynamic principals and we have found this makes more interesting wines. This is a great place to relax and is a centrally located in the King Valley.

A well kept secret

| April 2018

Introduced by a friend this hidden gem is at the bottom of the King Valley and features bio-dynamically grown varieties that are bordering on rare such as Saperavi and Legraine. Yes I am a convert! The rustic surroundings and incredibly friendly staff add to the experience Don't be put off by the long list of varietals - quality and passion for product have not been diluted by the amount of varieties and whilst their 2014 Legraine is a winner ask for the unlabelled 2015 which is kept hidden This is easily an $80.00 bottle but hasn't made their wine list just yet. So take the great vintages, the rustic surroundings, the amaximgriver valley setting and add in a simple range of wood fired Pizza and you have a fantastic afternoon out. I will be back.
